Design and build
The Roomba 205 abandons the conventional self-emptying base station in favor of onboard waste management. Its integrated DustCompactor mechanically presses collected debris within the chassis bin, aiming to hold up to 60 days of particulates without external bag docking. The robot measures as a standard disc finished in matte black, incorporating an internal ClearView LiDAR module rather than a protruding surface turret. This keeps vertical clearance manageable under low furniture while protecting optical sensors from physical impact. Underneath, cleaning duties rely on a single edge-sweeping brush paired with a multi-surface rubber roller. The assembly uses a cartridge filter to trap fine dust prior to air exhaust. Overall construction follows iRobot's standard modular engineering, emphasizing user-accessible wear items like rollers and side brushes, but eliminating the floor footprint and noise associated with high-decibel motor towers found on typical dock-emptying systems.
