Design and Build
The Strathmore 400 Series pad utilizes an 11-by-14-inch physical layout anchored by a substantial side wire binding and a heavy chipboard backing. This rigid backplate removes the immediate need for a separate drawing board when working away from a studio desk. Internally, the pad houses one hundred sheets of 60lb (approximately 89 gsm) acid-free paper, manufactured in the United States. Rather than tearing directly against the spiral loops, each page features a clean micro-perforation line set inward, ensuring that detached pages measure exactly the advertised 11x14 inches. The spiral coil retains its shape under repeated page rotations without binding or distorting individual sheets. While the 2.1-pound total weight makes it slightly cumbersome for handheld walking sketches, the build quality prioritizes structural rigidity on flat tables or drafting easels. Note that Strathmore provides no explicit product warranty against wire deformation or binding detachment under rigorous studio transit.
